New Year’s Day was a double celebration for the UK’s oldest couple, as they also celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. 100 year old Robert Erskine and his wife Susan, 99, were joined by three younger generations of family in their celebrations on 1st January 2012.

The pair haven’t spent a day apart since Robert returned from serving in World War II, but even before they got married back in 1937, the couple had been engaged for 5 years. Mrs Erskine said her mother approved of the wedding because Robert was such a nice boy, and advised she was thrilled that she and Robert are Britain’s oldest couple.

Many people love the idea of a romantic fairytale wedding in Scotland, whether in a castle with the groom and groomsmen dressed in kilts or the fantasy of running away together to Gretna Green to get married. The point is, everybody wants their wedding to be special to them, and there should be many happy memories to live again and again, either through photographs taken at the wedding venue, revisiting an area on a wedding anniversary, or just reminiscing and thinking back to the wedding day.
